Program: 4 Days / 3 Nights
Tour Code: HTSKP
DAY 1: Siem Reap - Beng Mealea - Koh Ker
We journey northeast from Siem Reap to the massive
jungle temple of Beng Mealea, the size, and scale of Angkor Wat but utterly
swallowed by the jungle. We clamber
about this titanic of temples that feels just like it would have when
discovered by the first explorers. We
continue to Koh Ker, a 10th century capital abandoned in the remote north of
Cambodia for more than a thousand years.
Our team set up camp for us, while we enjoy a visit to the pyramid
temple of Prasat Thom and take in sunset over the jungle. We camp right outside the walls of the
temple and our guides can take you to explore the temple by torchlight.
DAY 2: Koh Ker - Tbeng
Meanchey
After
breakfast, we continue to explore the many temples at this incredible site,
including the beautiful Prasat Krahom, covered by jungle. After lunch, we head east through Kulen
district to the provincial capital of Preah Vihear, Tbeng Meanchey. We visit a local silk project for the
disabled and disadvantaged called Joom Noon and spend the night in a local
hotel.
DAY
3: Tbeng Meanchey - Preah Vihear
Today we
have a long journey north to the mountaintop temple of Preah Vihear. Leaving Tbeng Meanchey, we take a road north
towards the Thai border before reaching the Dangrek Mountains, which form a
natural border between these two neighbors.
We drive slowly and carefully up the steep road to the summit. Our team set up camp right beneath the third
enclosure of the temple and we explore this majestic sight when all the other
tourists have departed back to Thailand.
Set on the cliffs of the Dangrek range, this is undoubtedly the most
dramatic location of any of the ancient Khmer temples. The views are endless and we take in sunset
over the Cambodian plains below.
DAY
4: Preah Vihear - Anlong Veng - Siem Reap
We rise
early to take in a stunning sunset before breakfast. We journey down the mountain before continuing west to Anlong
Veng, one of the last Khmer Rouge bases to fall to government forces. We stop here for lunch and visit the house
of Ta Mok, former military commander of the Khmer Rouge. We then continue south to Siem Reap,
arriving as the sun goes down.
