Program: 6 Days / 5 Nights
Tour Code: HBSCS
DAY
1: Phnom Penh - Kep - Koh Tonsay
Journeying
south, we make for the colonial-era coastal resort of Kep-sur-Mer, known simply
as Kep today. Once little more than a
ghost town, its charms are once again being discovered and new hotels and
resorts are opening up. After dining on
fresh crab in Kep, we board a boat for the short journey to Koh Tonsay or
Rabbit Island in English, where we will lead the life of lotus-eaters for the night. While our team makes camp, you are free to
swim or relax or explore the island, inhabited by a small community of fisher
folk. Later we have a seafood barbecue
for supper.
DAY 2: Koh Tonsay - Kep -
Kampot
We leave
the morning free to enjoy the island life and make for Kep for lunch. We continue to Kampot, stopping to explore
the cave temple at Phnom Chhnork, dating from the 7th century but perfectly
preserved in its underground location.
Kampot is a charming riverside town with a rich legacy of French
architecture. We check into the Bokor
Mountain Club, set in handsome old building, and enjoy sunset over Bokor
Mountain, our destination the following day.
DAY
3: Kampot - Bokor National Park
We
depart Kampot for abandoned hill station of Bokor, set within the lush
surroundings of Bokor National Park.
The road snakes upwards through the jungle, arriving at the 1000m
plateaus, with magnificent views across the coast of Cambodia. We take in the atmosphere of this ghost town
with a visit to the empty Bokor Palace Hotel and King Sihanouk's old guest
villa. Our team set up camp while we
visit the impressive Popokvil Falls where we can have a picnic lunch. From here, it is possible to trek back to
the abandoned hill station for three hours through the jungle or you can return
by car and enjoy an afternoon at leisure at Bokor.
DAY 4: Bokor National Park -
Sihanoukville
We leave
Bokor after breakfast, heading down the mountain road to the coast below. We journey west to Cambodia's leading beach
destination, Sihanoukville, also sometimes known as Kompong Som. We enjoy lunch in town and leave the
afternoon free for you to enjoy the stunning beaches here. We spend the night at a comfortable
beachside hotel or resort.
DAY 5: Sihanoukville - Koh
Rong Samleon
This
morning, we board a boat to journey to the island of Koh Rong Samleon, one of
the most beautiful off Cambodia's coast.
On the way, we can stop at selected snorkeling spots for a chance
encounter with some marine life. Once
at the island, our team set up the camp, while you relax in the crystal clear
waters or on the white sand beach that you have all to yourself. At night, we have a fresh seafood barbecue.
DAY 6: Koh Rong Samleon -
Sihanoukville or Phnom Penh
After
breakfast, we have most of the morning free for swimming, sunbathing or
exploring the island. We return to
Sihanoukville by boat where the trip can be extended for a more traditional
beach holiday or you can return to Phnom Penh by car.
The luxury Angkor Safari Tent allows us to take you
to places in Cambodia that currently have no or little tourism infrastructure,
ensuring you have a truly unique experience.
The tents are based upon the tried and tested African safari luxury
tents. Each day they are pitched at our
destination by our staff on a durable tarpaulin and they consist of two layers,
the outer waterproof layer sits about 20cm above the inner layer. The inner layer comes with complete mosquito
and insect protection and includes five meshed windows for light and breeze
during the day. The overall dimensions
of the tent are 3m wide x 4m long x 2.5m high.
Yes, you heard it right, 2.5m high offering standing room
throughout. Furnishings include
custom-designed camp beds, 2m long by 1m wide with a foam mattress and cotton
bedding. There are small square tables
inside for suitcases or rucksacks, and two chairs and a table under the veranda
awning where you can relax and enjoy morning tea and coffee, as well as and
your meals which are prepared by our expert cooks.

What about calls of nature? – No problem! The Angkor
Safari Tent comes equipped with toilet and shower tents to ensure maximum
privacy in the middle of nowhere. The
shower is the same as an African bush shower, essentially a heavy-duty bag that
is filled with water and has a handle to stop and start the flow. Our team boils up a large pan of iodized
water, mixes it with some cold and voila, a hot shower in the jungle. The toilet is a wooden box with a standard
toilet seat on top. When our team sets
up camp, they dig a small hole and put the toilet tent over the top. When everything is packed away, it is filled
in again leaving no trace.
